Bassist
Jef Charland was born in Gardner, MA where he originally began playing the
trumpet in elementary school. Later, Jef took up the guitar and was admitted
for study at the Berklee College of Music where he studied with Jon Damien
and played in the house band at the historic Wally’s Jazz Club. Not
until after college did Jef pick up the bass and shortly afterwards joined
the highly innovative jazz trio, “H.” Since that time, Jef has
found himself in high demand as a bass player, dividing his time between appearances
with James Merenda’s Masked Marvels, Jon Damien, Gypsy Schaeffer and
the Andy Voelker Trio. Jef has performed at a variety of music venues including
Avalon Nightclub and the Hatch Shell in Boston, and the Montreal Jazz Festival.
